Dr. Daniel A. Kaute, Ph.D
Dr. Daniel A. Kaute is Managing Director for MedX in the UK. He has a strong interest in medical technology, both through prior work experience, and by growing up with a long history of medical profession in his family, who used to own a well known private hospital in Berlin, Germany.
Daniel’s specialty is high tech commercialization strategy and implementation. Until November of 2014, Dr. Kaute has been President and CEO of Environmental Waste International Inc. (a public company – TSX Venture: EWS). EWS has developed patented technology based on micro wave radiation that breaks down organic materials, including rubber tires, into valuable by-products. Dr. Kaute’s main task was redefining the focus of the company towards industrial rubber waste remediation, with a zero waste, zero cost strategy that attracted the attention of major tire and other rubber product manufacturers. While under his direction, the company also raised over $4 million in equity.
Dr Kaute is a serial entrepreneur. Prior to Environmental Waste he was CEO of Renewable Energy Management Inc (REM) and its Joint Venture ENTECH-REM, which had a proprietary state of the art low temperature gasification technology licensed from Australia. His principal roles were to define strategy, streamline operations, and raise capital. He successfully raised $3.2 million in seed funding from strategic partners. Until 2007, Dr. Kaute was President of Plasmatreat North America Inc, a High Tech company. He was pivotal in establishing Plasmatreat®’s patented Openair Plasma Technology in the American market, responsible for acquisition of key accounts like Boeing, Ford, Harley Davidson, Magna, and medical device companies like Medtronic. He was also involved in the international expansion of Plasmatreat®. Prior to joining Plasmatreat® in 1999, he was a director at Danone, where he set up and ran their successful operations in Russia.
Dr. Kaute studied engineering with a double diploma (with distinction) from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France, and University of Stuttgart, Germany. He received his Ph.D. in materials engineering at Cambridge University, UK. Dr. Kaute is fluent in English, French, German and Russian. Until February of 2015 he headed the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Toronto. With over 2,000 members and 80 events annually, it is one of the most active societies in North America. It also raises funds, which have allowed the society to send four students so far on a full scholarship to Oxford or Cambridge. He is also a judge at the annual IBK Capital Ivey business Plan Competition at University of Western Ontario in London.
